Weekend Re-Cap: I’m Glad It’s Monday

I was a seriously busy bee this weekend. I didn’t intend for the weekend to go this way, but it did. I’m actually glad Monday is here, so I can spend the day sitting at my desk!

A little taste of my weekend:

Loads upon loads of laundry

Roasted a chicken for meals this week

Made chicken broth from the bones

Made this Old Fashioned Chicken Noodle Casserole to have on hand for dinner this week.

Steamed the linoleum and hardwood floors with my new favorite cleaning toy that I can’t wait to tell you about

Made blackberry soda (Oh yeah. It’s as good as it sounds)

Got a blackberry stain out of my carpet (never leave toddlers alone with their PB&J’s)

Got a blackberry stain out of white baby PJ’s (see above)

Started my knitting project again, frogged it, and started again

Cut some of my Zinnias in hopes of getting a better looking flowerbed (see the first image in the post – they are so pretty!)

Made a loaf of sandwich bread

I cleaned the house too, and some other boring stuff, oh! And Chloe potty trained herself! Excellent! She doesn’t like to be pushed or forced into new things, and over exposing her can sort of make her shut down. So, with the potty training, I went at it really casual. I let her figure it out. I put the potty chair in the bathroom and just walked away from it. Like it was no big deal. “Use it or don’t use it. I don’t care”

It’s been sitting there for about a month. She would go sit on it and talk and play, but never use it for what it was meant for. About two weeks ago, I thought I’d give it a go and put underwear on her instead of diapers. I told her if she had to go – go to the potty. She ran in and sat on it. But when it came time to actually go, she immediately stood up and peed on the floor. And then cried hysterically while walking like a broken robot.

I left it alone for a while because she was really upset about it. I simply refuse to fight over going to the bathroom, or to see her so upset about something so silly. I didn’t ask her to sit on the pot again. A few days later, she did on her own. That’s been going on for a while now. Sitting on the potty (wearing a diaper), then standing up and asking for a new diaper. I thought she might be starting to get the idea.

Sure enough. Last night, stark naked and straight out of a bath, she runs into the living room. She looks down and without thinking I said “if you have to go, run to the potty”. She did. She sat there staring at me with a really confused look on her face. And that was that. She went. We made a huge deal out of it, laughing, clapping, yelling “yay” and she was clearly proud! She gets the idea now, so we will start encouraging it more. She’ll be done with diapers in no time. I’m excited!

With all the things I got done this weekend, it’s going to be a fun week of posts. Hope you all had a great weekend as well!

By the way, can you believe the Mars landing? Amazing stuff!
